【摘要】:Thistestmethodisusefulformeasuringrecreationalwaterqualityandchlorinatedwastewaters,althoughitcanbeusedforanywatersuspectedofcontaminationbyfecalwastesofwarm-bloodedanimals.ThesignificanceoffindingE.coliinrecreationalwatersamples,especiallysamplesobtainedfromfreshrecreationalwaters,isthatthereisariskofgastrointestinalillness,directlyrelatedtotheE.colidensity,associatedwithswimming.4SincesmallorlargevolumesofwaterordilutionsthereofcanbeanalyzedbytheMFtechnique,awiderrangeoflevelsofE.coliinwatercanbedetectedandenumeratedthanwithothermethods.1.1Thistestmethoddescribesamembranefilter(MF)procedureforthedetectionandenumerationofEscherichiacoli,abacteriumfoundexclusivelyinthefecesofhumansandotherwarm-bloodedanimals.Thepresenceofthesemicroorganismsinwaterisanindicationoffecalpollutionandthepossiblepresenceofentericpathogens.Thesebacteriaarefoundinwaterandwastewaterinawiderangeofdensities.Thedetectionlimitofthisprocedureisonecolonyformingunit(CFU)pervolumefiltered.1.2Thistestmethodhasbeenusedsuccessfullywithtemperatefreshandmarineambientwaters,andwastewaters.Itistheuser''sresponsibilitytoensurethevalidityofthistestmethodforwatersofothertypes.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.Forspecifichazardstatements,seeSection9.
