【摘要】:Exposuretoberylliumcancauseapotentiallyfataldisease,andoccupationalexposurelimitsforberylliuminairandonsurfaceshavebeenestablishedtoreduceexposureriskstopotentiallyaffectedworkers(1,2).Samplingandanalyticalmethodsforberylliumareneededinordertomeetthechallengesrelatingtoexposureassessmentandriskreduction.Field-portablesamplingandanalysismethods,suchastheproceduredescribedinthistestmethod,aredesiredinordertofacilitateon-sitemeasurementofberyllium.On-siteberylliumanalysisresultscanthenbeusedasabasisformanagementofprotectionofhumanhealth.1.1Thistestmethodisintendedforuseinthedeterminationofberylliumbysamplingworkplaceairandsurfacedust.1.2ThistestmethodassumesthatairandsurfacesamplesarecollectedusingappropriateandapplicableASTMInternationalstandardpracticesforsamplingofworkplaceairandsurfacedust.Thesesamplesaretypicallycollectedusingairfiltersampling,vacuumsamplingorwipingtechniques.1.3Thistestmethodincludesaprocedureforon-siteextraction(dissolution)ofberylliuminweaklyacidicmedium(pHof1%aqueousammoniumbifluorideis4.8),followedbyfieldanalysisofaliquotsoftheextractsolutionusingaberyllium-specificfluorescentdye.1.4Theprocedureistargetedforon-siteuseinthefieldforoccupationalandenvironmentalhygienemonitoringpurposes.1.5Nodetailedoperatinginstructionsareprovidedbecauseofdifferencesamongvariousmakesandmodelsofsuitablefluorometricinstruments.Instead,theanalystshallfollowtheinstructionsprovidedbythemanufactureroftheparticularinstrument.Thistestmethoddoesnotaddresscomparativeaccuracyofdifferentdevicesortheprecisionbetweeninstrumentsofthesamemakeandmodel.1.6ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.1.7Thistestmethodcontainsnotesthatareexplanatoryandnotpartofmandatoryrequirementsofthestandard.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
